Daily Bread

The Lord's Supper

Date: Nov. 28, 2015

Passage

Matthew 26:17-30  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 26:28

First, an evil choice (17-25). God used Judas' evil choice to fulfill Scripture. (Jn 17:12).

Second, the new meaning for Passover (26-30). During a Passover Seder Jewish people drink four cups of wine. These cups of wine are based on four promises God made to them: "I will bring you out... I will free you... I will redeem you... I will take you as my people" (Ex 6:6-7). During the Last Supper, after picking up the third "cup of redemption," Jesus said, "Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins." In this way he established a new, deeper meaning for the Passover-"do this in remembrance of me." We have forgiveness of our sins by accepting his blood. We must always remember his grace. Jesus also promised that he would eat and drink with his people again in his glorious kingdom (the fourth cup of completion).

Prayer: Lord, we are incredibly grateful that we know you, the one true God, our Lord and Savior.

One Word: His covenant sealed in his blood
