Matthew 26:57-75 (ESV)
Key Verse: 26:75b
First, Jesus' Trial (57-68). In this mockery of justice, Jesus "was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth" until legally bound to do so by the high priest's charge (Isa 53:7).
Second, coming on the cloud (64). What a day it will be when our Lord returns, no long suffering servant but as the conquering King, to rule and reign in Jerusalem (Da 7:13, Ps 110:1).
Third, Peter's denial (69-75). Peter finally realized what he was really like-a cowardly, arrogant, wicked, weak-willed man. Now he is ready to receive grace from the only One who can deliver him from himself-his Lord and Savior. Have we actually realized that we are no different?
Prayer: Lord, grant that we may see our complete spiritual destitution clearly, be it ever so painful.
One Word: My Savior tried in my place
Genesis 49:1-28
Key Verse: 49:10
