Psalm 42:1-11 (ESV)
Key Verse: 42:5
Frist, my soul pants for you (1-4). The author was in a similar situation like David who was in hot pursuit by Absalom. He must be one of the sons of Korah who used to sing at the temple among the festive throng but not now. In times of distress when his foes teased, saying 'Where is your God?' the psalmist didn't despair. Rather, he remembered God and searched for the living Lord like a deer pants for streams of water.
Second I will yet praise God (5-11). When his soul was downcast, the psalmist rebuked himself by saying, "Why my soul, are you downcast?" He then encouraged his soul two times, "Put your hope in God!" Though his hard reality looked like as if God had forgotten him, he rather remembered the living God who was his Rock. He then could praise the Lord saying, "I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God!"
Prayer: Lord, I am like a deer in hot pursuit many times. Lord, help my soul not despair but put my hope in you.
One Word: I will yet praise you, my Savior and my God!
Acts 8:26-40
Key Verse: 8:35
