Psalm 44:1-26 (ESV)
Key Verse: 44:7
First, "In God we make our boast all day long" (1-8). The psalmist had a sense of history. He remembered how God's mighty hand drove out the nations, planted his fathers in the Promised Land and flourished them. It was not by their sword nor by their arm but by God's mighty hands and the light of his face, for God was their King and loved them. He trusts in God who gives victory for Jacob. He boasts in God all day long and praises him forever.
Second,. "Rise up and help us!" (9-26). But now they face the opposite situations. The enemies defeated them. They were scattered among the nations and became a byword and reproach to their neighbors. The psalmist could not understand why all these calamities happened to them because they didn't forget God. Finally he understands; they face death all day long as sheep to be slaughtered for God's name's sake. So he cries out, "Rise up, O Lord, and help us." Our Lord Jesus remembered this psalm and prayed when he was slaughtered as a sheep with no guilt.
Prayer: Prayer: Lord, you give us victory. I will not depend on my ability but your mighty hands. When I am humbled, I will cry out to you alone.
One Word: Rise up O Lord and help us!
Acts 8:26-40
