Mark 2:13-17 (ESV)
Key Verse: 2:17
First, "Follow me" (13,14). Jesus went down to the lake where a large crowd came to him. Jesus began to teach the crowd the word of God. Jesus never missed a chance to teach the word. As Jesus was walking along talking to the crowd, he saw Levi sitting at his tax collector's booth. Jesus called him to follow him. Levi immediately left everything behind and followed him. The mark of a disciple of Jesus is that when they hear Jesus' voice, they follow-no questions asked!
Second, Jesus ate with sinners (15-17). Levi threw a large dinner party to celebrate his new life. He invited Jesus and his disciples, but also many tax collectors and public sinners. Some Pharisees saw this, and asked Jesus' disciples why he ate with such people. Jesus replied to them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners." Sin makes us unhealthy and sick. Jesus came to heal of us our sin. He came to call sinners and through the forgiveness of their sin, make them righteous.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for Jesus, who came to call sinners and make them well. Help us tell others of Jesus' healing powers.
One Word: Jesus is my doctor
Acts 8:26-40
