2 Corinthians 4:7-18 (ESV)
Key Verse: 4:17
First, treasure in jars of clay (7-15). The gospel is a treasure that has all-surpassing power. Paul likened his body to a jar of clay. He and his companions had experienced extreme hardship but he was not destroyed. God had allowed these difficulties to come in order to reveal the life and power of Christ in their mortal bodies. Paul could overcome severe trials with resurrection faith. As Jesus was raised from the dead, so Paul and his co-workers were certain that they too would be resurrected. They overcame their fear of death.
Second, surpassing eternal glory (16-18). Our mortal bodies are wasting away in this fallen and sinful world. This is painful but we must not lose heart. The spiritual treasure in our hearts renews us day by day. Our trials are light and momentary compared to the eternal glory we shall have in God's kingdom. Let us fix our eyes on what is eternal.
Prayer: Lord, you know our trials, struggles and hardships. Please reveal your glory in our jars of clay. Thank you for the promise of the resurrection.
One Word: Eternal glory that outweighs them all
Acts 8:26-40
