2 Corinthians 5:1-10 (ESV)
Key Verse: 5:9
First, our heavenly dwelling (1-5). Our bodies and lives in this world are like an earthly tent. Tents are temporal. They can be destroyed. But we Christians have an eternal house in heaven. We groan and are burdened in our mortal bodies. We also long to be clothed with our immortal, heavenly dwelling. Because the Risen Christ defeated death, we, too, are victorious. God has given us the Holy Spirt as a deposit, guaranteeing this sure victory over sin and death.
Second, live by faith and please Jesus (6-10). Paul was confident that as long as he was in his body in this life, he was away from the Lord. That is, by faith, Paul knew that one day he would forever be in the Lord's presence regardless of what he was experiencing in the present. Therefore, his goal was to please Jesus. Our goal should be the same. One day everyone will stand before Jesus to give an account of how he lived in his earthly tent.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for the promise of the resurrection body. Help me to live by faith and make it my goal to please you in all things.
One Word: Make your goal to please Jesus
Acts 8:26-40
