Exodus 29:29-46 (ESV)
Key Verse: 29:46
First, seven days to ordain them (29-37). In order to be priests who serve the Holy God, the priests had to be ordained through a delicate consecration process for seven days. They had to eat consecrated bread. A bull each day was sacrificed as a sin offering for the priests and the altar to be consecrated too.
Second, I am their God (38-46). Each day a lamb a year old was offered in the morning and at twilight with a grain offering and its drink offering. It was a pleasing aroma, a food offering presented to the Lord. The burnt offering is to be made regularly at the entrance of the tent of meeting. After all these requirements were done, then God would meet with them. God's glory will consecrate the tent and God will dwell among the Israelites and be their God. Now these sacrificial systems have become obsolete because Jesus himself once and for all consecrated anyone who believes in him. Immanuel God now dwells among believers as their God, not as an absentee but a resident landlord.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for Jesus' sacrifice so that God dwells among us making us his consecrated priests.
One Word: Our God dwells among us
Acts 8:26-40
