Exodus 34:1-35 (ESV)
Key Verse: 34:6
First, the Lord proclaimed his name (1-9). When Moses sought God with all his heart and went up with two stone tablets, God came down in the cloud and proclaimed his name; as the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he punishes the guilty to the third and fourth generations. Moses once more prayed to God to go with them. This time he identified himself as the same sinner like his people.
Second, "Do not make any treaty with the Canaanites" (10-35). God then made a new covenant. God would drive out all the people in the Promised Land. But they should love and obey God seeking to please him and not compromise with the Canaanites; No idol worship, no intermarriage, but keep Passover feast, keep Sabbath holy and bring the best to God. God is God of jealousy. The Ten Commandments was given again. When Moses came down, his face was radiant because he spoke with the Lord.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for showing your glory through Jesus Christ. Help me not to compromise with the world. Let me spend time with you till my face and life shine with your glory.
One Word: The Lord is the compassionate God!
