The Priestly Garments and the Tabernacle

Date: Mar. 16, 2016

Passage

Exodus 39:1-43  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 39:32

First, the priestly garments (1-30). The 2 onyxes on the shoulders as well as the 12 jewels on the breastpiece of ephod with the names of the 12 tribes of Israel reveal the priestly duty. He must bear the burden of Israel on his shoulder and cherish each of them as a precious jewel in his chest. Aaron sinned by allowing the golden calf but God forgave and anointed him as "Holy to the Lord." We are sinners but Jesus cleanses us and makes us his royal priest and a holy nation by clothing us with him as our priestly garment.

Second, just as the Lord had commanded (31-43). Thus all the work on the Tabernacle was completed. The Israelites did everything just as the Lord commanded Moses. The work required a tremendous amount of materials, detailed craftsmanship and co-working. Here the words "all the work", "completed," "everything," "just as the Lord commanded," show how the Israelites were so careful to obey God through Moses. It reminds us of Jesus' last word, "It is finished!" God's work must be done just as God commanded and.

Prayer: Lord, you are the Holy Priest who bore our sins on the cross and cherished us in your heart.

One Word: "It is finished!"
