Leviticus 2:1-16 (ESV)
Key Verse: 2:8
First, a food offering (1-10). A grain offering was a voluntary offering of thanksgiving and devotion to God. It was bloodless, but accompanied burnt, sin and fellowship offerings. It included fine flour, oil, and incense. It was oven-baked, griddled or pan-cooked and tasted like pie crust. It was a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord. The priest burned a memorial portion to the Lord. The rest was for the priests to eat.
Second, unleavened and seasoned with salt (11-16). Grain offerings contained no yeast and no honey. This recalled their flight from Egypt. Salt was required in all offerings, recalling their covenant with God. Christians remember Jesus Christ and our new covenant in his blood. All these offerings costed time, money and effort to make in the prescribed way and bring it to the priest of the Lord. Do our offerings cost time, money and effort? It costed Jesus everything.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, you gave not only time and earthly possessions but your life, even your kingdom, to show us true worship. O may I have a heart of worship like yours.
One Word: Bring your offering to the Lord
Revelation 19:11-21
