The Fellowship Offering

Date: May. 3, 2016

Passage

Leviticus 3:1-17  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 3:17

First, an offering for fellowship or peace (1-15). The fellowship offering was also called the peace offering. It was voluntary. It could be a cow, a sheep or a goat, male or female, but it had to be without defect. The priests splashed its blood against the altar's sides. This was the one offering that the offerer could eat part of in a communal fellowship meal. For Christians, we are reminded of Jesus' body and blood (communion) that reconciles us to God, giving us peace with God (Col 1:20; Ro 5:1). Jesus is our peace (Eph 2:14).

Second, don't eat any fat or any blood (16-17). The fat was the best part. It belonged to the Lord. The blood represents life and was not to be eaten.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for reconciling me into fellowship with you through Christ. You deserve my best love and worship, my heart and life. Take my life and let it be consecrated to you.

One Word: Peace with God through Jesus Christ
