Leviticus 7:11-21 (ESV)
Date: May. 9, 2016
Leviticus 7:11-21 (ESV)
Key Verse: 7:12a
First, an expression of thankfulness (11-15). There were three types of fellowship (peace) offerings. This paragraph mentions one that is an expression of thankfulness. Thank offerings are noted in the psalms for deliverance from death, trouble, or sickness (Ps 56:12; 107:22; 116:17). This offering required an animal sacrifice, three unleavened loaves, and a fourth loaf with yeast, which was not burned on the altar. How have you given a thank offering to God lately?
Second, a vow or freewill offering (16-21). These were the other two types of fellowship offerings. Thank offerings had to be eaten the same day, but these could be eaten the next day. It could not be eaten on the third day, for that would make it impure. So it had to be burned. To eat it on the third day would cut a person off from God's covenant people. Unclean meat could not be eaten. A person who became unclean could not eat the fellowship offering.
Prayer: Lord, we thank and praise you for your deliverance. Forgive our casual attitude toward good fortune and blessings. Thank you for reminding us to give you thanks and praise.
