Leviticus 14:33-57 (ESV)
Key Verse: 14:53b
First, remove spreading mold from houses (33-45). They were not in Canaan yet. The Lord might put mold in a house there. Moldy stones had to be thrown out and replaced. Houses with persistent mold had to be destroyed. God's people must have bodies, clothes and homes that are clean and consecrated to God (Ro 12:1; Jude 23; Titus 1:7).
Second, purify the house (46-57). Unclean houses made the people in them unclean. An unclean house pronounced clean still had to be purified through the 2-bird ceremony: one killed, one set free. This would atone for the house and make it clean. God gave these regulations for his people to live clean lives as a clean community by God's standards. He taught them how to distinguish between the clean and unclean. Jesus said greed and self-indulgence make us unclean (Mt 23:25)
Prayer: Lord, cleanse and purify my heart now of all my sin. Help me by your grace to pursue holiness and righteousness in thought, desire and action.
One Word: Pursue what is clean to God
2 Kings 20:12-21
Key Verse: 20:17
