Leviticus 15:1-33 (ESV)
Key Verse: 15:31
First, unclean male discharges (1-18). A man with an unclean discharge made not only himself unclean but also any bed he lied on, chair he sat on or person or thing he touched. It had to be washed and was unclean till evening. The cleansing period was 7 days. On the 8th day, two doves were offered for a sin (purification) and burnt offering to make atonement for him.
Second, unclean female discharges (19-33). A woman's flow of blood made her unclean. She also had a 7-day cleansing period, followed by an offering of two doves to atone for her and make her clean. The Israelites, as God's people, had to separate themselves from uncleanness. They must not defile God's holy dwelling place among them. As Christians, we must not let our bodies be defiled, for we are temples of the Holy Spirit (1Co 6:19).
Prayer: Lord, cleanse me of all bodily defilement. May I not defile my body, which is the dwelling place of your Spirit.
One Word: A clean body dedicated to God
Genesis 40:1-23
