Genesis 45:1-28 (ESV)
Key Verse: 45:8a
First, "God sent me...to save lives (1-15). After Judah's offer to become a slave, the test was over, and Joseph revealed himself. They were terrified. But Joseph took no revenge. Rather, he taught them God's purpose in all this. Read verses 5-8 again. Joseph repeated, "God sent me...to save/ preserve lives." Joseph did not know this amidst his sufferings, but God's hand in all this was marvelous. God saw 22 years ahead to that day to save many lives in Egypt and Canaan. God used Joseph to save his brothers, both physically and spiritually. God is always working things out for good, saving many lives.
Second, Jacob's spirit revives (16-28). Pharaoh was delighted and generously helped Joseph's family come to Egypt. Jacob had lived in sorrow for 22 years. But when he finally believed Joseph was alive, his spirit revived with hope to see Joseph.
Prayer: Lord, help me to trust you in difficult times, knowing that you have a marvelous plan to save many lives.
One Word: God is doing good, saving many lives
